In December 2024 Forest Lakes Firewise expanded it's perimeter to include the Big Foot Jackson neighborhood. We did this because our neighborhoods are physically connected and we share common exit routes. We are now stronger and more effective together as a unified Firewise community.

 

At the heart of Forest Lakes Firewise community lies a commitment to wildfire prevention and general safety. As a Firewise-recognized neighborhood, we work together to protect our homes, our forests, and our way of life.

Create Defensible Space

• Maintain a 30-foot buffer zone around your home

• Remove dead vegetation and trim trees

• Keep gutters and roofs clear of debris

Home Hardening

• Use fire-resistant building materials for roofs and siding

• Install mesh screens on vents to prevent ember entry

• Replace wooden fences and gates with non-combustible alternatives

Emergency Preparedness

• Develop and practice a family evacuation plan

• Prepare an emergency kit with essentials

• Stay informed about local fire conditions and warnings

Community Involvement

• Participate in neighborhood clean-up events

• Attend Firewise educational workshops

• Share fire prevention knowledge with neighbors
